What's New

The Venue

For those of you who have attended Mardi Gras in the past, just about everything will be new. The venue is new for this year. This will be the first time the Agora Room has hosted a gymnastics competition such as this. The Agora is Strathcona County’s newest special event centre located in the Community Centre. This building features in-house food services, an art gallery and a state-of-the-art library. The wide open Agora lets in lots of natural light and makes a great setting for any event.

The Equipment

For the first time in Mardi Gras history, we are bringing in all new AAI equipment directly from the US. The truck is already loaded and Mardi Gras participants will be the first to try it out. All the mats, bars, beam, vault and floor will be brand new AAI equipment. This will be the same equipment heading on to the Kyle Shewfelt Gymnastics Festival and Provincials.

Spectator seating

The Agora is not a square room. It’s actually a triangle which makes the floor plan a bit of a challenge for a traditional competition meet set up. This year won’t be anything close to traditional. We have arranged the equipment in such a way to provide parents with an up close and personal viewing experience. Mardi Gras will introduce apparatus specific seating. Parents will be able to sit close to the actual apparatus and then rotate with their children. No need to worry about saving your seat as there will be ample seating for everyone and each seat will have a perfect view.

To ensure the tile floor in the Agora remains dry and clean for the gymnasts and spectators, Mardi Gras will be a no shoes event. We will be providing a coat check service for $2 as well as an area to leave shoes and boots.
