Headstart
This class is by invitation only; please watch this website for upcoming tryout dates. Headstart is a non-competitive program intended for those gymnasts showing an above average ability and desire towards the sport of gymnastics. The focus of this program is on physical ability development along with the development of strong, technically correct gymnastics basics. The class structure will include a warm up, physical ability development including strength and flexibility, and two to three rotations on the apparatus. This class is 4 hours per week split between two 2 hour sessions. Gymnasts in this program do not work towards badges, but will receive a progress report at the end of each session.

LEAP Program
Ages 6 - 9 yrs, 6 - 10 hours per week (two or three 3 - 4 hour sessions)

The LEAP program is intended for young athletes who show an above average ability and desire in the sport of gymnastics. The focus of this program at Salto is on the development of sound gymnastics basics and physical preparation.

Gymnasts in this program will prepare for participation in LEAP events. These events consist of evaluation of specific skills and physical ability exercises at four different, progressive levels (Copper, Bronze, Silver & Gold). They introduce the elements of performance and focus to these gymnasts by giving them an opportunity to show their skills in front of an audience and LEAP Evaluators. "Apart from the Gold level, the LEAP program is not a competitive network. Advancing from one level to the next is a consequence of proper preparation and proper basics. The only adversary to surpass is oneself."

"The LEAP program aims at providing all young Alberta female gymnasts with some of the proper initial content for their development, without regards to the competitive level each one aspires to. It rests on the belief that all young gymnasts need good basics and sound physical preparation."

Once the coaches feel that gymnasts in this program are ready, they will be offered chances to attend LEAP events.

Provincial Program
Ages 9 yrs+, 10.5 - 16 hours per week (3 - 4 days per week)

This program is intended for those gymnasts who have the ability to compete in the Canadian Provincial Program (Levels 1 - 5). They enjoy participation in competitive gymnastics, but still want time for other activities (school, sports, etc). This program still has the expectation that the gymnasts will train with focus but we do understand that their motives for being at Salto are for enjoyment and the social atmosphere as well as participation in competitions.

The gymnasts in the Provincial Program will be guaranteed to be offered participation in a minimum of 4 competitions (these may be any combination of Invitational and/or Sanctioned competitions).

Performance Program
Ages 7 years+, 12 - 20 hours per week (3 - 5 days per week)

This program is designed for gymnasts with exceptional ability and/or work ethic who have a strong desire to excel at competitive gymnastics. These gymnasts wish to strive towards more advanced competitive levels and have a desire to do well at competition (strive for podium placements). They are committed to training with focus and wish to be pushed to reach their potential.

Gymnasts aged 10 + in this program will be required to do a minimum of 4 specific competitions including sanctioned and invitational meets (coaches may alter this based on training, development and future goals). These competitions will be selected to give these gymnasts experience and exposure to other gymnasts striving for similar goals. Gymnasts of this age in the Performance Program will compete in one of the following:

· Canadian Provincial Program (Levels 2 -5), or
· National Pre-Novice Program
· National Stream (Novice or Open age groups)

Gymnasts aged 7 - 9 in this program will be required to attend LEAP (see LEAP section above) events in both components (Skills & Physical Ability). Appropriate events will be chosen by the coaches and confirmed with the gymnast's parents. Some gymnasts in this age group may also participate in Pre-Novice level competitions and physical ability testing depending on the availability of Pre-Novice events within the competition schedule.
