Salto Gymnastics Club in Sherwood Park, Alberta, is located just 15 minutes east of Edmonton in the heart of a booming economy.
Salto is a rapidly expanding club with base of 2000+ recreational and 35+ competitive and developmental athletes. Salto has seen an increase of 20-30 % in enrolment and we need YOU in order to keep up!

Salto Gymnastics Club is in a centrally located 11,000 square foot facility with state of the art equipment. We are a family orientated Club where the emphasis is on the child's needs. Salto staff is very team orientated and their primary concern is the total development of the gymnast, both as an athlete and a person.

Executive Director Job Description

  Purpose:

Under the direction of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall directing of operations to achieve the goals and objectives of the organization.  The Executive Director is responsible for providing initiative, leadership, and direct service within the organization.

Qualifications:

  • proven management and administration skills, including financial and human resource management
  • knowledge and experience in the areas of gymnastics coaching and administration
  • superior verbal and written communication skills
  • strong strategic planning and organizational abilities
  • good communication skills and ability to have presence with a full range of media
  • excellent interpersonal skills essential to dealing effectively with a diverse group of interested individuals as well as maintaining staff morale and direction

Responsibilities:

Board and Membership:

  • assisting the Board in the development and implementation of long-term goals and objectives of the organization
  • serving as a consultant and resource person to the Board and its committees, and to the membership
  • implementing all policies, programs and other directives of the board
  • working with the Technical Director, Communications Director and Administrator, ensuring all pertinent information is circulated to the Board and/or membership in a timely manner
  • formally reporting to all Board and membership meetings held by the organization 

Administration:

  • recommending, establishing and annually reviewing policies and procedures to be approved by the board in keeping with the overall objectives of the organization
  • with the Technical Director and other Program Coordinators, providing general direction to, and review of, all employees
  • with the Administrator, ensuring adequate record-keeping in all areas of operations
  • ensuring all correspondence is handled in an effective and timely manner
  • with the County and the Technical Director, ensuring adequate maintenance of all property and equipment owned, rented or leased by the organization
  • maintaining the confidentiality of all internal matters pertaining to the organization and its operations

Finance:

  • assessing short and long term financial needs and recommending appropriate courses of action
  • with the Treasurer, drafting and monitoring the annual operating  budget and reporting regularly to the Board on the organization’s financial situation
  • with the Technical Director and Program Coordinators, authorizing expenditures within the total budget
  • identifying and pursuing all appropriate revenue sources, government grants and sponsorship opportunities

Fundraising:

  • assist the Board and fundraising committee to develop and implement a fundraising strategy
  • soliciting contributions from financial institutions, businesses, individuals, government and corporate entities through an annual fundraising campaign; cooperating with the fundraising committee to establish funding of the operating budget
  • with Board approval, writing proposals/grants and submits them to prospective contributors
  • maintaining a current roster of contributors and distributes regular status reports
  • providing coordination and staff assistance for all fundraising activities
  • meeting or exceeding revenue goals to ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work
  • establishing positive relationships with individual donors

Personnel:

  • overseeing all areas of human resource management, including establishing and maintaining a professional and competent work force as is essential to the achievement of the goals and objectives of the organization
  • establishing clear lines of communication and authority at all levels of the organization including ensuring that semi-annual parent-coach meetings are conducted by the appropriate staff members
  • assisting the Technical Director in establishing and maintaining effective employee relations strategies including the ongoing evaluation and monitoring of employee performance
  • providing educated recommendations to Board on establishing and maintaining a competitive compensation package
  • promoting professional development among employees and volunteers through participation in appropriate educational programs
  • maintaining a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people

Public Relations:

  • promoting the objectives of the organization through establishing positive working relationships with employees, volunteers, membership, Board and committees, the public, local, provincial and national gymnastics organizations, government departments, the media and other cultural agencies
  • developing and maintaining professional liaisons with the community in support of areas of mutual concern
  • representing the organization at meetings with the County of Strathcona, Alberta Gymnastics Federation,  the Chamber of Commerce, government and other agencies
  • acting in a senior public relations role to promote the organization, its goals and objectives at community functions or other events as may be requested by the Board

Program Management:

  • assisting the Technical Director with developing ideas, programs and opportunities which will benefit the membership of the organization
  • planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating special projects of benefit to the organization
  • attracting and retaining a qualified volunteer base
  • with the Technical Director ensuring that the programs and services offered by the organization contribute to the organization's mission and reflect the priorities of the Board
